A luxury SUV should be powerful, well-appointed, and classy. Both the 2019 Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS certainly meet this description. Ithaca, Corning, and Binghamton drivers may be wondering which one could be the better fit for their lifestyle.

The Audi Ithaca team is comparing the Audi Q7 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLS in this space. We'll be closely inspecting vehicle performance, interior amenities, and safety features to help guide you in the buying or leasing process.

Q7 vs GLS: The Driving Experience

Both SUVs offer powerful engines which perform admirably. The Q7 features quattro® all-wheel-drive, which helps enable dynamic handling through torque distribution to the rear axle. You'll be able to take turns more confidently, even when the weather conditions deteriorate and the roads become slippery or snowy. Similar all-wheel drive technology can be found in the 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS.

The Audi Q7 has the advantage when it comes to filling up. The base edition of Audi's standout offering receives an EPA-estimated 19 MPG city/25 MPG highway.1 On the flip side, the 2019 GLS is only capable of receiving an EPA-estimated 17 MPG city/22 MPG highway. While it may not seem like a major difference on paper, you'll come to love the fact that you can go further without filling up in the Q7.

Inside the Cabin

We spend a lot of time in our cars each day, so it's important to be comfortable while doing so. The cabins of both the 2019 Audi Q7 and 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS are driver-focused, and they both stand out with three rows and space for up to seven passengers in each.

The Q7 is richly designed, with supportive leather upholstery and wood trim. While the GLS features beautiful wood trim and meticulous detail, the standard seating offering is not real leather and instead a leatherette surface.

Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ also come standard in the Q7, and you'll have an 8.3-inch touchscreen to use, too. Easily link up a compatible smartphone to the touchscreen to play music, read text messages, or use navigation features. Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto are available in the 2019 GLS, but they are not standard features like they are in the Q7.

Audi vs Mercedes-Benz Safety Features

Both the Q7 and the GLS are loaded with safety features designed to keep you protected while driving. A standard rearview camera is found in each model. The camera tracks what's going on behind the car when backing up and displays the image on the touchscreen for easy viewing. Both vehicles feature advanced camera systems which give drivers a better idea of what's happening around the car, not behind it.

The Q7 features Audi pre sense® front, which tracks whether a frontal collision is imminent. It will warn you if a collision is detected, and braking assistance will be provided if needed. Seat belts will be pretensioned, and windows and optional sunroof will be closed. This is similar to the PRE-SAFE feature in the GLS, which tightens the seat belts and closes the windows and sunroof.
